    As a United States citizen, understanding the significance of the Supreme Court is essential. It serves as the highest federal court in the nation and the head of the Judicial branch of our government, playing an important role in upholding the law. Through further research, I discovered that the Supreme Court was established by the U.S. Constitution and holds jurisdiction over all laws in the United States. This responsibility is immense, as the Court is tasked with reviewing the constitutionality of laws. While its legitimacy is grounded in the Constitution, the Court's power depends on the public's trust in its independence and impartiality. Additionally, it is important to recognize the Supreme Court's purpose, which is to uphold a 200 year old Constitution, protect liberty and defend the rule of law. I have appreciated the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the foundational aspects of the United States' Judicial branch that I was previously less familiar with.

    Additionally, my most significant takeaway about the Supreme Court is the profound impact that decisions made by nine justices have on the lives of everyday Americans. These justices rely on the Constitution to address national issues, engaging in deliberation to reach the most informed and lawful conclusions possible. The immense power vested in these individuals carries a tremendous responsibility, as they are entrusted with making decisions that shape our nation's future. As citizens, it is our duty to closely monitor the Supreme Court's rulings to ensure they are fulfilling their crucial role in upholding justice and the principles of our Constitution. 

    One of the most surprising things I learned about the Supreme Court is that over the course of American history, there have only been over a hundred Supreme Court Justices, serving an average of 16 years. As spoken by a justice, the process by which being appointed to the Supreme Court is "akin to being struck by lightning." The entire process is completely humbling. It is a true honor serve on this Court, which allows individuals to work on behalf of the Constitution and honor the law, making decisions that are in the best interest of our great country. Interestingly, I had not realized that Supreme Court Justices appointed by a President when there are no vacancies on the Court accumulate in such large numbers. With each passing presidency, those appointed patiently wait for the opportunity to serve. When selected and sworn in, the Supreme Court Justices are called upon to draw boundaries of government power, utilizing their responsibility to uphold the law, the institution, and one's own conscience.

    After watching the video, I gained a newfound respect and understanding for the immense responsibility held by the Supreme Court. Nine justices are tasked with interpreting a living document that has guided our nation for over 200 years, applying its principles to modern cases while striving to uphold the ideals that the founders of the United States fought to establish. Additionally, I was struck by the Court's unique approach to treating every case accepted for review with equal importance, regardless of its status. In a nation as vast as the United States, that commitment is remarkable.
